The Point of Fork Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR), was organized on December 8, 1936, by a group of women from Fork Union, Virginia, and the surrounding area. They named the chapter for the area where the James River and the Rivanna River converge, known as Point of Fork, pictured above. This is just upstream from Columbia, Virginia. On this point of land there was an arsenal built for the Continental Army.
The brick building on the Fluvanna County seal is the Point of Fork arsenal.
The Point of Fork Chapter is committed to the ideals of the National Society whose motto is "God, Home, and Country." We are a non-profit organization that strives to foster patriotism and preservation of historical sites and objects.
The Point of Fork Chapter members visit veterans in hospitals and nursing homes, donating books, magazines, and clothing. The chapter gives American Flags to area schools and sponsors essay contests in these schools on the subjects of good citizenship and American history. The members attend Flag Day ceremonies and participate in naturalization ceremonies for new citizens of the United States of America.
The Point of Fork Chapter meets once a month from September to June. Included in each meeting are patriotic, historical, and educational programs. Our members enjoy at least one trip to a Revolutionary historical site each year.
